The Meaning of Art for The Address Collective

Meet The Famous Faces And Local Artists

Walk into one of our hotels and you will probably notice the artwork before you have even checked in. Colour, scale and a little personality can completely change how a lobby, lounge or corridor feels. For us, art is part of the welcome. It gives our guests something to notice, chat about and remember, and it helps each hotel feel connected to the place just outside its doors.

You can see that idea in our growing series of “famous face” portraits. Sir Billy Connolly brings plenty of Glasgow character to The Address Glasgow, Cillian Murphy takes pride of place at The Address Cork, and our newest addition, W. B. Yeats, celebrates Sligo’s wonderful literary story at The Address Sligo.

Why Art Matters To Us

Hotels are busy places. People arrive, meet for coffee, head out to explore and come back with stories from their day. We think the spaces in between should have a bit of life too. A vivid painting can lift the mood of a room, catch your eye across reception or reveal a new detail each time you pass it.

The art we remember usually has a story behind it. That is why we choose work that reflects the people, places and creative spirit around our hotels. Art at The Address Collective gives every hotel room to show its own personality, while still feeling part of the same welcoming family.

Celebrating The Creative People Around Us

Community has always been an important part of The Address Collective. Through our art programme, we can bring more local character into a stay, give artists a place to share their work and, at selected times, invite guests and delegates to get involved through art classes.

We enjoy introducing visitors to artists and creative voices they might not otherwise meet. It also means that a business trip, weekend away or special occasion feels a little more connected to the destination. The artwork is not there simply to fill a wall. It helps tell you where you are.

Meet Our Famous Faces

We asked artist and designer Patrick Billington to create a bold portrait for each Address property, with every piece featuring an iconic person connected to that hotel’s home city. The faces may be familiar, but Patrick’s style gives guests plenty to stop and look at.

Sir Billy Connolly at The Address Glasgow

It is hard to think of Glasgow without thinking of Sir Billy Connolly. Born in the city, he worked as a welder in the Clyde shipyards before moving into folk music and building an international career in comedy, television and film.

Billy was an easy choice for The Address Glasgow. His humour, honesty and creativity feel completely at home in the city, and his familiar face adds warmth to the hotel’s contemporary setting. For guests who are new to Glasgow, the portrait is also a lovely introduction to one of its most recognisable characters.

Cillian Murphy at The Address Cork

In Cork, we wanted to celebrate a familiar local face with a truly international career. Cillian Murphy has moved between Irish theatre, international cinema and television. In 2024, he won the Academy Award for Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Oppenheimer.

His portrait brings a cinematic touch to The Address Cork while keeping the story firmly rooted in the city. Most guests recognise him straight away, but the artwork is well worth slowing down for. There is always more to see when you take a closer look.

W B Yeats at The Address Sligo

Our newest famous face is W. B. Yeats at The Address Sligo, and it is difficult to imagine a better match. County Sligo shaped Yeats’s imagination, and its scenery, folklore and stories stayed with him throughout his life and work. Today, Sligo is widely known as Yeats Country, and the Yeats Building in town continues to celebrate the poet and his creative family.

Yeats received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923, but here in Sligo the connection feels personal as well as literary. His portrait links the hotel to the rivers, mountains, coastline and local stories that guests can discover during their stay.

There Is Always Something New To Notice

Our famous faces are only part of the art you will find across The Address Collective. The wider collection includes portraiture, illustration, abstract work and plenty of bold colour. Everyone responds to art differently, which is half the fun. You might be drawn to a familiar face, an unexpected detail or simply the way a painting changes the mood of a room.

The collection can keep growing too. New artists and new pieces give returning guests something fresh to spot, while each hotel keeps a visual character of its own. Over time, the artwork becomes part of the welcome and, we hope, part of what guests remember about their stay.

Come And Take A Closer Look

From Billy Connolly in Glasgow and Cillian Murphy in Cork to our new W. B. Yeats portrait in Sligo, these works bring local character right into the heart of our hotels. They brighten the shared spaces, start conversations and offer another way to get to know the destination.

Take a look at the artists behind the collection on our Art at The Address Collective page, or come and meet our famous faces during a stay in Dublin, Glasgow, Cork or Sligo.
